Brumberg Flutes

The flutes are carefully hand-crafted in meditative calmness; no machines are used. The wood—mostly elder, but also hazel, maple, pear or exotic timber such as currant—has been selected by my own hand in the forests, has been cut and put in storage for at least one but often for several years.  The surface is mostly stained with the juice of miscellaneous berries or walnut paring and then sealed with hard wax or shellac.  The flutes obtain their very own and individual character through carvings, inserted mussels or stones.

Max Brumberg has learnt his trade in Slovakia, where he lived with the Masters of his profession and acquired the required know-how.  Comparisons between different designs and styles of the individual producers and many personal experiments with the materials have made his flutes become what they are today: unique copies with top-quality in sound and form.

The flutes are tuned in differing systems, either corresponding to modern orchestra tuning (in a) at 440Hz or corresponding to the old resonance of our earth year (in a) at 432Hz. The flutes can also be tuned corresponding to the tones of planets (H. Cousto).  Concerning the individual tunings please take a look at the section ‘World in Sound’. It is also possible to produce flutes especially for my customers, simply get in touch with me…
